Only a mother. . .
The longer I am a mother, the more it means to me, and the more I see how wonderful my own mother is. At times, I don't think we comprehend the impact we have on our children and in turn, the world. Think of the ways our own mothers have left an imprint on our lives! What a calling we have - - what a treasure! Until my first son was born, I never realized that I could love or hurt so deeply. . . Never knew what a "She Bear" lurked in me until my children's security was compromised. . . I never imagined that I could be so tired or frustrated at the same time. . . Never thought I'd have a heart filled with so much joy or "warm fuzzies". . . I also never thought about the fact that once I became a mother, I would be one for the rest of my life.
To all my dear friends who are mothers, I hope the holiday in this month is a special one for you. Several times during May, I want to share some of my favorite quotes/sayings surrounding motherhood. I hope they will be as touching to you as they are to me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When a child is born, a mother is born. And when a mother is born, a unique and powerful love grows from the center of her heart and reaches out, across years and through all obstacles, to shape the life of her child. It's a love that is inspiring, incredible, and invincible. It's a love like no other.
~~~~~
Every mother's story is unique, and every mother's love for her child incomparable. Yet this incredible, invincible love also binds mothers together. We share a devotion that "always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
~~~~~
A mother is the only person who can divide her love among all her children and each child still have all her love.
~~~~~
A mother is a person who sees that there are only four pieces of pie for five persons and promptly remarks that she's never cared for pie.
~~~~~
To be a mother is the grandest vocation in the world. No one being has a position of such power and influence. She holds in her hands the destiny of nations.
Great post!! Sooo true!!
Enjoyed the quotes for Mother's Day. I just have one question, does the fourth one down apply to Buskin's cookies or a giant chocolate chip cookie, loaded with frosting??? (Just have to pick on you..since I know your weaknesses haha!)
Those beautiful quotes touched this Momma's heart!
Thanks!
Motherhood is a blessing!
What beautiful thoughts, and its so true what a responsiblity. You have such a great writing style Martha. I enjoy reading your posts. You inspire me to be a better mommy.
I had to leave a comment about your lives taken by abortion since the start of the war. This is so true.
I am Wilma's brother-n-law and your neighbor in Greensboro NC.
It is amazing how much love one person can have. I have struggled with trying to understand how some mothers abuse, neglect, or treat their kids the way they do. My dad often reminds me to be thankful I don't understand, it means I can't be that way!
Motherhood...what an amazing gift from God. It means even more to me since we thought a few years back our family might not be blessed with children. God certainly answered our prayers...twice!
Enjoyed this post!
Your post is so true. I did not fully appreciate my mother until I became one. As a child I could not understand some of the rules and decisions that she made, but after I became a mother I can see how wise my mother was. I am so glad that I told her that before she passed away. I plan to post a tribute to my mother for Mother's Day. So stay tuned.
OH, THOSE QUOTES ARE VERY TRUE! There is no other place I'd rather be than being a HAPPY WIFE FIRST, and a HAPPY MOMMY SECOND! What a blessing it is to have a close family and to love each other to piece and love God with all of our hearts too!
Love, Heather =)
NANCY, I hide those types of things so that I will not be put to the test! :-)
You made me cry! I know what you mean... I can be so frustrated with my little ones one minute, and so in love with them the next. I had an instant love for my first girl as she was born... I had become a Mama for life, and Wo be to the person who tries to hurt my children, or tries to influence them in the wrong way... Believe it or not, I had a blast this morning with sidewalk chalk drawing a hop-scotch on our sidewalk. I tried to show my kids how to do it... I think I had as much fun as they did. It is like you get to do all these childhood stuff again without being accused of being insane. Love it!
