50th day of school~11/1/06
Typical of life, the novelty of first grade is starting to wear off. So, I decided I would surprise Seth with a 50th day of school celebration. We began as usual, but he did not have to do any studies after morning pledge/prayer. You can imagine how excited he was! (I was awarded with hugs and kisses.) I gave him fifty cents to add to his excitement. (That made his stash equal about four dollars which brought him to the conclusion that he is finally rich:-) Our first activity was to bake cookies, and we read stories while they were in the oven. Next, we headed to the lake for a picnic. The boys were thrilled to use their itty bitty lunch boxes. Isn't "my spot" beautiful this time of year?! I could not get enough of it! I was glad I remembered to bring extra bread, and the geese were very happy to gulp our treat. Down the shore (away from the geese), the boys tossed rocks in the water. (Thankfully Ethan now knows the difference between rocks and dog droppings, so he did not send any of those sailing across the lake!) We ended the day with our weekly library trip. What a fun 50th day!
Here are a few interesting school stats about Seth:
1. He has memorized John 3:14-19 and Psalm 34:8-15.
2. He has read 1,302 words from a phonics list and 96 books on his own.
3. In arithmetic, his oral test average is 100% and written is 98%.
4. His 8 phonics tests have all been 100's.
5. He has memorized all five verses of Amazing Grace and all three of This Is My Father's World and learned the stories behind them.
6. He has spelled all 105 spelling words correctly. (He forgot to capitalize one on a test.)
4 Comments:
your boys are getting so big. You have to be so proud of Seth!!! He really is a good student from all you have said. And boy, with Ethan you could write a book. (Can't wait till I have my own one day....Imainge the tales I'll have with a father like Jonathan.)
I'm jealous. Connor still claims recess as his favorite subject!
Seth must take after me! I must show Joshua this when he gets home, so his quizzing verses don't look so rough! Your spot is beautiful. I wish I could hang out there with you! It has been in the 20's here. Andrew is going to the superbowl this weekend, so practices this week have been miserable!
Go, Andrew!!!!! I will cheer for you in the nice 60's weather of SC. :-)
